I think this week's assignment should be a lot of fun for most of us! The assignment was basically to find 2 silly patents, and discuss the claims along with how the patent relates to obviousness, anticipation, or prior art infringment. My first patent is a pretty funny one - it is a patent for an invention called "Leaf Chaps".
Analysis: Though nets and pants are both obvious, I do not think that the invention of Leaf Chaps is obvious, nor have I found any prior art that may infringe on the patent. The reasoning for this is simple, however - the idea provides limited functional benefits, in addition to health and safety concerns. Who knows what crawls beneath and between the leaves in your backyard - do you really want that making its way up your pants as well?
I hope you all enjoyed this patent! Stay tuned for another silly patent on my blog this week!

Hey Mo! This is a really funny patent. I would hate to wear this around, and I would absolutely look ridiculous in these pants. However, I do actually think that this patent might be useful - think about people who have lots of trees around their lawns in the spring!
ReplyDeleteHey! Great Insight on this patent. I agree that the idea provides limited functional benefits, in addition to health and safety concerns. There are lots of bugs crowning in leaves. There would be lots of safety concerns if it got in your clothing. Interesting patent idea. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteHey Mo,
ReplyDeleteGreat information on this hilarious patent. Also great hat! I agree with Won that this patent may actually be useful, but I would absolutely hate to wear these around because of how dumb I would look and how uncomfortable I would be.
Mo,
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely hilarious post about leaf chaps! I loved this patent so much that I actually included it on my own posts this week! I agree that it is quite novel and non-obvious based on the fact that prior knowledge does not indicate very similar products. In addition, I believe the safety cautions that you brought up were also valid.Great job with this post and I look forward to see what other silly patents you included on your other posts.
Best,
Anish
Hi Mo,
ReplyDeleteSimilar to the other comments, I agree this post was hilarious! How did you even find this patent?
I like how you bring up the fact that this patent may actually be a safety concern; I definitely don't want to have anything on my lawn potential cause health issues. Great job as always!
Hilarious post! Where were you able to even find this patent?! Maybe this is the new rake replacement, although tripping as you say is a real hazard!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
