Hello readers,
Welcome to my IEOR 190G blog! I am relatively new to both blogging and the subject material of this course, but I look forward to an awesome semester filled with lots of learning opportunities:
About Mo Jomaa:
I am currently a third year Business Administration major at the Haas School of Business. I was originally born in Orange County down in southern California, but I am loving my time in the Bay Area. I chose to attend UC Berkeley because of the strong reputation of its business school, its proximity to the technology companies in the Silicon Valley, and its “college town” atmosphere. As a Business Administration major, I have taken on a variety of different internships in finance and technology in order to help fully fund my tuition and living expenses. I am also currently involved in several business organizations on campus.
In my free time, I love playing and watching basketball. I have been playing basketball for 9 years, including four years of high school varsity basketball, and it has grown to become a big part of my life. In addition to regularly playing intramural basketball at the RSF, I am a die-hard Los Angeles Lakers fan, and I have never lost an NBA fantasy basketball league. With my friends, I also enjoy competing in eating challenges in my spare time. A select list of accomplishments include (each in one sitting): 100 chicken nuggets, 26 hard shell Del Taco tacos, 23 cantina soft tacos, and 15 Capri Sun juice pouches in 15 minutes. I have also competed in spicy food eating challenges, completing the “Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin’ Challenge”.
Why did I take this class?
Since my most recent internship at Apple in their finance division this last summer, I have always had a strong interest in mobile technology, particularly with regards to the escalating competition between iOS, Android, and Windows device manufacturers. As an owner of several Android and iOS devices, a former Apple employee, and a mobile app junkie, I have always been well-informed of the ongoing patent wars that take place within the smartphone industry. I believe that IEOR 190G will offer an opportunity to gather comprehensive insights into the fundamental concepts and terminology behind patents.
What do I hope to gain by taking this class?
By taking this class, I hope to gain a fundamental understanding of intellectual property from an engineering perspective and learn how to apply for and use patents effectively. I have always had a strong interest in entrepreneurship, and patents are essential in terms of protecting an inventor's rights to develop, manufacture and/or sell an invention. I hope to utilize the concepts I learn in this class in my career, as I strive to start my own company one day.
